Macular Mission

Early Dectection Saves Sight

Mission Statement

Macular Mission is a student-founded initiative with the purpose of spreading awareness about age-related macular degeneration, one of the leading causes of vision loss.

Through education, outreach, and collaboration with local eye-care professionals, our aim is to help individuals recognize the early symptoms, understand prevention strategies, prioritize proactive eye health, and encourage people to get eye exams for age-related macular degeneration. Our mission is to promote awareness that saves sight in relation to age-related macular degeneration.

Macular Mission provides a printable Amsler Grid for patients to monitor vision changes from home.

Why is Awareness Important?

Early detection saves sight. Macular Degeneration can quietly change the way people see the world, and many individuals do not realize they have it until vision loss begins. Awareness means catching it early, protecting sight, and helping others understand that regular eye exams can make all the difference. By spreading awareness, we give individuals a chance to protect their sight before it is too late, so they can continue to see the moments that matter most.

Our Story

Growing up in a family with a strong history of macular degeneration, I’ve seen firsthand how it can slowly take away something most of us take for granted, the ability to see clearly. Seeing loved ones struggle with this eye condition showed me the importance of protecting your vision early on from the effects of age-related macular degeneration.

I created Macular Mission to raise awareness, share real stories, and encourage people to get their eyes checked for age-related macular degeneration before it’s too late. Most people don’t realize that potentially harmful habits we form now can affect our eyesight many years and even decades down the road, and I want to change that.
